In my time, summer break was very simple.
The goal was clear.
Find a good internship.
Work for a company.
Learn from experienced people.
Add that company name to your resume.
And hope that one day it helps you get a good job.
That was the normal path.
Every student was chasing the same thing.
A good college, a good internship, a good company, and finally a stable job.
For many years, this formula worked.
But today something very different is happening.
Students are using the same summer break for something completely new.
They are not just applying for internships.
They are building AI startups.
And this small change shows how much the world has changed.
A few years ago, building a startup was not easy.
You needed many things.
You needed developers.
You needed designers.
You needed money.
You needed a team.
You needed an office.
Even building a simple product took months.
If you had an idea, the first question was always:
“Who will build it?”
Today, the question has changed.
Now it is:
“How fast can you build it?”
Because AI has changed everything.
A student sitting in a small room with a laptop can do things that previously needed an entire team.
Need help with coding?
AI can help.
Need a website?
AI can help.
Need design ideas?
AI can help.
Need marketing content?
AI can help.
Need to understand customers?
AI can help.
Of course, AI does not replace hard work.
You still need ideas.
You still need creativity.
You still need discipline.
But AI has removed many barriers.
It has given ordinary people extraordinary power.
This is why many students are looking at summer differently.
Summer is no longer only about getting experience from a company.
It is also about creating your own experience.
Instead of waiting for someone to give them an opportunity, students are creating opportunities.
They are experimenting.
They are failing.
They are learning.
They are building.
And this experience itself is becoming valuable.
The job market is also changing.
Getting a good job has become harder.
Companies are hiring carefully.
Competition is increasing every year.
Thousands of people are applying for the same positions.
Earlier, a good degree and internship were enough to stand out.
Today, companies want to see what you can actually build.
A real project can sometimes speak louder than a resume.
Imagine two students.
One says:
“I completed a summer internship.”
Another says:
“I built a product, got users, talked to customers, and learned from real problems.”
Both experiences are valuable.
But the second student has something different.
They have proof.
They have shown initiative.
They have shown that they can create something from zero.
This does not mean internships are useless.
Internships are still important.
Working with experienced people teaches you many things.
You learn teamwork.
You learn communication.
You learn how companies work.
But now there is another path.
And AI has made that path available to more people.
The interesting thing is that many big companies also started from small places.
Some started in garages.
Some started in college rooms.
Some started as side projects.
The difference today is speed.
Earlier, founders spent years building the first version of their idea.
Today, someone can create a working version in days or weeks.
The cost of trying has reduced.
And when the cost of trying becomes low, more people start experimenting.
This is where innovation happens.
Most ideas will fail.
That is normal.
Every startup will not become successful.
Every student will not become a founder.
But every student who builds something will learn.
And that learning can change their future.
Because building teaches things that books cannot.
You learn how difficult simple things are.
You learn how users think.
You learn how to solve real problems.
You learn patience.
You learn responsibility.
The biggest advantage of this AI era is not that everyone will become a millionaire.
The biggest advantage is that everyone can become a creator.
A student does not have to wait for permission anymore.
You do not need someone to choose you first.
You can choose yourself.
You can start small.
You can build.
You can share.
You can improve.
A laptop and an idea are enough to begin.
The world has changed.
In my time, summer was about finding the right company.
Today, summer can be about building one.
The next big startup might not come from a huge office.
It might come from a student sitting in a dorm room.
Someone experimenting after classes.
Someone building at midnight.
Someone who decided not to wait for an opportunity.
Someone who decided to create one.
AI has changed the game.
And maybe this is just the beginning.
